RockforRockfordRenovation.jpgd Addition/Renovation Completed Fall 11

A large 3,000 square foot addition/renovation to a home in Rockford. This project resembles new construction in the amount of square footage being added but also has the complexity of renovation since most of the existing home's interior and exterior was modified. A narrow lot and fact that the clients will be living there throughout the project added to the complexity.

The client contracted with us to design and build the addition/renovation. The project added a great room, sunroom, walk-in pantry, media room, master suite, and two additional bedrooms. The existing family room became a formal dining and the kitchen got some upgrades including a large island. The laundry room was moved from the first floor to the 2nd floor and the location of the family bathroom was changed to allow for a new hallway into the addition on the 2nd floor.  A new main entry and foyer was an important part of the design.

The master bath features a tiled walk-in steam shower, heated tile floors, and granite countertops. The home features a two sided fireplace between the kitchen and great room, whole house audio, and 2nd furnace and a/c unit. The home also includes signature Cutting Edge details such as crown mouldings, wainscoting, extensive built-ins, custom trim pillars and arched pass-throughs.

Dean Lake
Addition/Renovation
Completion Spring 10

Our clients for this premier project including an addition and whole house renovation knew that they had a home in a great location when they purchased it several years ago.  Located on Dean Lake, a rare all sports lake located right in the city, the home meets the client’s desire to live close to their business yet gives them the feel of a cottage retreat.  Although the location is great, the look was not what they desired.  The architecture was 1960s Mediterranean style and we converted it to craftsman style.

The project started with demolition of an obsolete deck and four season room.  A 660 square foot addition which will be used as a great room was then constructed in its place to provide a panoramic view of the lake through a wall of windows.  The project included replacing all windows and exterior doors, adding a new deck, installing new shake and board and batten siding, and re-roofing the entire house.  The front underwent dramatic changes including the addition of a third stall garage door and creation of a cottage style front porch.  Many of the interior doors and much of the trim on the first floor was replaced with craftsman style cherry trim.

As part of the extensive project, we also constructed a 16’x32’ boat and storage building down by the lake.  This structure is not only functional but complements the architecture of the home.

Now that we have completed the first phase of this project we are beginning the next phases which includes a new kitchen and stairways in the home.  In the final phase we will renovate the home's shared bath and the entire master suite, at which time the entire home will have been renovated. Our clients chose Cutting Edge Builders because of our high quality trim carpentry and creative design expertise in architectural details.  Our clients are looking forward to many years of enjoyment in their newly expanded and remodeled home on the lake.

Completion Fall 09

Our clients for this 1,120 two level addition came to us with a very specific list of needs for their growing family.  They wanted a mix of family space and private space for themselves.  For their family space, we are creating a playroom for the children including a recessed niche for the flat screen TV above the fireplace as well as a separate exercise room with interlocking foam flooring.  For their private area we are creating a sprawling 660 square foot master bedroom retreat including a sitting room with built-in cabinetry, a large bedroom with fireplace and tray ceiling and a spa like bathroom with tiled walk-in shower, separate toilet room and a furniture piece vanity with a solid surface countertop.

Ensuring that the addition looked like it belonged to the original home was also a high priority for our clients.  Our client worked with our designer to ensure that the addition was aesthetically pleasing, as well as functional.  As part of this project we are also changing the flow of the existing house floor plan to better meet their needs.  This includes an entire rebuild of the existing stairway in a different configuration and the enlargement of the existing kitchen including the addition of a walk-in pantry.  Original architectural details such as trim and arched pass-throughs will be carefully replicated.
Our clients contracted with Cutting Edge Builders based on our design expertise and unmatched craftsmanship.  Our clients are looking forward to enjoying this upcoming Holiday season in their newly expanded and renovated home.
