Tom got his start in construction through the Construction Technology program at a local college.  He continued to build his skills and experience working for a builder in his hometown building high end rustic style lake homes for out-of-town clientele.  He also spent a year renovating rooms at a local resort, gaining valuable experience in a wide variety of trades/skillsets, making him invaluable to Cutting Edge in quality control and project management.

After joining Nate and Doug to start Cutting Edge, Tom excelled as a fine craftsman and trim carpenter but for many years now has filled the important roles of cabinet designer and project manager.  He brings his experience to bear developing unique solutions in cabinets design and loves engaging directly with our clients as project manager, helping them navigate the complexities of a high-end renovation or new home project.

With his wide range of skillset and his passion for delivering an excellent product and experience to each of our clients, Tom is a valuable asset to Cutting Edge and our clients.

Douglas graduated from Hope College with a degree in business and economics and also earned a masters in accounting from Western Michigan University.  He obtained his CPA license and worked for BDO, a large international accounting firm, both in the Chicago and Grand Rapids offices.  Although he enjoyed working with high profile local clients including Amway and Steelcase, he decided to pursue his first interest, building and remodeling.  He started his career in residential construction by working for a local builder and learning the art of being a general contractor.

 

He considers himself a lifelong learner and has obtained four major credentials (CGB, CGR, CGP, and CAPS) through the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).  He also holds a Michigan residential real estate license.

 

He brings valuable administrative and sales experience to Cutting Edge Builders.  He makes initial client contact including phone calls and in-person meetings to discuss a client’s needs, project goals and possible solutions.  He gives preliminary budget guidance to clients and also handles the financial aspects of Cutting Edge Builders.

Nate graduated from Taylor University with a business degree and initially worked in the fast-paced computer field but finding himself increasingly restless, he started working with a friend in construction where he discovered his true passion.  After moving to Grand Rapids to marry his college sweetheart, he began working for a small local builder where he really began honing his skills as a true craftsman before joining Doug and Tom to start Cutting Edge Builders.

  

Initially Nate served our clients as a very detail-oriented carpenter but years ago happily passed that responsibility to well-trained employees and now serves as our in-house CAD designer and project estimator.  He loves to work closely with our clients in the design and pricing process to blend their ideas with our experience to develop a custom design solution and project budget.

As a designer and estimator of many homes and high-end additions/renovations, Nate is an important part of the process and experience for our clients.
